Co-founder Herci Marsden prepares dancers for State Ballet of RI's 50th anniversary
5.9.2010 Herci Marsden, prima ballerina, artistic director, and co-founder of the State Ballet of RI, has come a long way from her Croatian birthplace, where, at age 5, she was already dancing. In 1958, she immigrated to Lincoln, R.I., where she made her American debut. Marsden, now 72 and still teaching, had one of her most celebrated dancing roles as "Giselle." So it's only fitting that the company she founded should perform that ballet on its 50th anniversary. The State Ballet presents "Giselle" in Roberts Hall at Rhode Island College on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
